LITTLE BOY LOST

By Judy Kiser

As my husband and I ordered our meal, I looked up and saw this young boy get off his bicycle, I only noticed him because he parked his bike in front of our car. He was thin, and limping. He was out at a very late hour, 1:00 am. And I wondered what a child of fifteen was doing out so late.
He came into the Huddle House and sat at the counter, when the server approached him he asked for a bag of ice. I looked over at him and I noticed that he had a mark over his left eye, he told the server that his chain had made him fall off of his bike. Being the mother and grandmother that I am, I didn't buy the story. The only two marks on the kid were the mark over his eye and the knee injury. Where were the other skinned places that come with a fall off of a bike?
The two injuries were not even on the same side of his thin body. Who did he think he was kidding?
My husband had come into the restaurant starving, I was not hungry at all, and had only ordered an order of french fries; well, when the fries arrived there was about three orders on the plate. I knew right then that I was being lead by a mighty hand to feed this child!
I took Rogers bread off of his plate and placed it on his larger platter, (something that he hates) and I scooped about two-thirds of the french fries on the little plate and took them with the bottle of ketchup over to the youth. I asked him if he would mind helping me out, because I thought the server thought that I was a lumber- jack. He grinned at me and said, " Gee thanks".
As he began to eat , I watched him out of the corner of my eyes, and I knew in my heart that the child had not eaten in awhile. He was a hungry young man. He reminded me of my son Jay at that age, he could eat the door off the hinges, and ask for more!
I could not eat the rest of my french fries! How could I, when this child was so hungry? I knew that it would be an insult to offer him my left-over’s, and I began to pray. I had not brought any money with me, this night out was Rogers treat to me.
As I sat and prayed for the boy, the Lord spoke to me. He told me that Roger would feed the boy.
Roger looked at me and asked why I had quit eating, and I told him that I just couldn't eat anymore, he then told me not to worry that he was going to buy the boy a hamburger and fries before we left.
My relief was so great, I knew that God had been in that little restaurant, and that he was watching over the youngster.
What I didn't know at that time was that God was not finished! When Roger called the server over to place the order, she said that we were not to worry that she was going to buy the boy his burger and fries. I was shocked!! Because I had criticized the server for her habit of giggling at the cook." So immature", I wailed.
How holier than thou, am I! Will I never learn that you should never cast stones? Will I never learn that God works in mysterious ways?
I learned so many things from that one short meal. The least not being that my husband is a very giving person. Not only did he give the server a five-dollar tip; (which is a good tip in a Huddle House), but he also gave the boy his last six dollars!
I say that I learned these things, but really what happened was that I was reminded of lessons learned a long time ago. I just don’t always remember what I have been taught.

"I thought of you first after my family sat down to watch the video we gave them. They loved it, to say the least!  Within thirty seconds my mom was crying and my dad did too.  They said it was the best Christmas gift we could have given them!!  You did such a beautiful job!  They were so surprised and so touched---they really, really, really loved it.  Thanks for helping to make it so special to us all.  My mom mentioned how the songs were perfect for the video too!  Thanks again!"
