DID YOU SAY CUCAMONGA?

By Thelly Reahm, c 2000

Circa 1980, when Mc Donald's Golden Arches opened in Aurora, Colorado,
cousins Roger and Rob (better known as our Bobsey Twins cuz they do
everything together) made a beeline for it to have their coffee break.

As a  Grand Opening Senior Promotion, Roger and Rob were given coffee
cups and were told they would get free coffee from then on as long as
they brought the coffee cups with them.

So began a long tradition of having free coffee breaks at any and every
Mc Donald's in the world.

About this time, Southwest Airlines was having a big promotion.  $25.00
fares to any place within the continental bounds of the United States.

"Let's go to Cucamonga and have a coffee break with my brother!" Rob
said one morning.

"O.k." Roger said.  He wasn't much for long conversations.

They just grabbed a toothbrush and their Mc Donald's coffee cups, their
green John Deere bill caps and dug up a can of cash from the backyard.

Two conservative, Depression raised, mid-western farmers out on the
town.

When they arrived, Rob's brother picked them up at Ontario Airport and
proceded to stop at Coco's for a coffee break.

Not to  be budged, the cousins held up their Mc Donald's cups and said
in unison "Our coffee is free for life at Mc Donald's!"

"But you guys just spent $50 bucks to get out here for a coffee break!"

"Oh, that…that don't matter none when the coffee's free!"

"Yep…free for life.  Forever.  Whenever.  Just bring our bottomless cups
to Mc Donald's!" Roger said with a grin.

That's the most cousin Roger ever said in one sentence his entire life!

Post Script:

Conservatively figured at 365 days a year for twenty years at roughly
fifty cents a cup? $3650.00.  Each!  I'm sure Mc Donald's didn't figure
on anyone seriously taking them up on the special offer.  But never
doubt for a minute that two mid-west farmers, raised in the Great
Depression of the Thirties don't know a bargain when they see one!  Even
throwing in a special airfare here and there.

REQUEST:

From: hunsun@ticon.net (Debby Adler)

My wonderful, adventurous son decided he was going to stand up in his
carseat last night and right at the same time mommy had to stop quickly
for a stoplight that changed (way to quickly in my opinion).  Caleb went
flying forward and hit the center council compartment between the front
seats of the mini van.  We rushed him right to the E.R. down the road
because the hit was right to the left eye.  Didn't want to take any
chances with his vision.  The Lord answered prayers quickly because he
was released with what was called a hematoma to the eye.  His vision at
this time as far as we can tell is not affected.  Keep praying for an
expedient recovery for our little boy and thank you from the bottom of
our hearts for your prayers for him.

Love Steve, Debby and Caleb Adler

"I thought of you first after my family sat down to watch the video we gave them. They loved it, to say the least!  Within thirty seconds my mom was crying and my dad did too.  They said it was the best Christmas gift we could have given them!!  You did such a beautiful job!  They were so surprised and so touched---they really, really, really loved it.  Thanks for helping to make it so special to us all.  My mom mentioned how the songs were perfect for the video too!  Thanks again!"
