My Easter Surprise

By: Bob Poole

I had just been transferred to Laurens, SC by my Company to work in a retail store. I did what I was taught from my youth to go to church. I walked into this little country church, on an Easter Sunday morning in 1950.

I do not remember much about the Service that Sunday morning, but I do remember a trio that sang a special song. I do not even remember the song. I just remember seeing a certain beautiful young lady who was singing with this trio.

There are many things that I do not remember, but I do remember this young lady. I do remember that I thought that possibly this young lady would someday become my beautiful bride. Now, I was a shy young man of 22, and not very smart. I left that church without even speaking to that young lady, not even knowing her name. As I think now, I realize that was not a very intelligent use of the brain.

However, I returned to the church for several weeks, the pastor's wife invited me to dinner at the parsonage. I assumed that I would be the only one there, but I was mistaken. There, to my surprise, there was this special young lady, and another young lady -- why, I did not know. I could not possibly see a reason to have the second young lady present at that time. And as time progressed, we began to know each other. We talked, and she too felt the same as I on that very first Sunday morning.

She was a lovely lady, she was a lovely bride. We were married in August of that year. Together we had two beautiful children - one boy and one girl. One grand child, Kelley Anne, and two lovely great grand children. Now, fifty years later, she is still a lovely lady, and she is still my lovely bride.

The roads have not always been smooth, sometimes rough and steep. There have been mountain tops and valleys. There has been lots of bright sunshine and there has been some rain. There have been some beautiful roses and there have been some prickly thorns.

Life is made up of little things, in which smiles, kindnessÂ’, little words and small considerations that preserve the heart, and keep love aflame and secure comfort as long as life shall endure. In my memory, I think of the smoothest roads, the brightest sunshine, the highest mountains, the most beautiful of all the roses in the world. These are my memories.

As we approach our 50th Anniversary, August 10, 2000, I write this to my lovely young lady, my lovely bride of fifty years, You, Juanita are the one who has made the best years of my life the best - you are my Easter Surprise.

A little bit about Bob:

I have been retired since 1988, but our medical expenses have been very expensive lately, and now I am working as a receptionist (4 hours a day, 5 days a week.) at a local factory. We will celebrate our 50th wedding
anniversary August 10, We had two beautiful children, one deceased. Have one grand daughter, and two great grand children. I have never written for anyone except for myself and family. I am not a writer, but have pleasant thoughts, and I enjoy life. There is not much to say about myself, except I do love the Lord, and sending out good, touching e-mail to friends.

Thought For The Day:

"Most men believe that it would benefit them if they could get a little from those who have more. How much more would it benefit them if they would learn a little from those who know more?"
(William Boetcker)

Verse for the Day:

"How much better to get wisdom than gold?"
Proverbs 16:16

Kid's Thought For The Day:

"Giving away one cookie when you have two is harder than giving away ten when you have a whole batch."

Parent's Thought For The Day

"A baby-sitter is a teenager who gets two dollars an hour to eat five dollars worth of your food."
(Henny Youngman)

Coach's Thought For The Day

"Anyone can become angry. That is easy. But to be angry with the right person, to the right degree, at the right time, for the right purpose, and in the right way - that is not easy."
(Aristotle)

Deep Thought For The Day:

"I read that for every mile you jog, you add one minute to your life. That enables you at age 85 to spend an additional six months in a nursing home at $5,000 a
month."

"I thought of you first after my family sat down to watch the video we gave them. They loved it, to say the least! Within thirty seconds my mom was crying and my dad did too. They said it was the best Christmas gift we could have given them!! You did such a beautiful job! They were so surprised and so touched---they really, really, really loved it. Thanks for helping to make it so special to us all. My mom mentioned how the songs were perfect for the video too! Thanks again!"
